As the seasons change and temperatures plummet, our skin needs also change. In winter, humidity drops making it drier which means we need to replenish moisture to prevent ageing and damage.
Our skin is our biggest organ so we need to take care of it in the same way we look after our bodies with diet and exercise.
Here are my Top 5 recommendations to try this winter:
1. Laneige Moisturising Cream Cleanser
This is a new favourite of mine. This Korean skincare brand is known for its skin first philosophy and use of innovative ingredients. This creamy cleanser is just a dream. The scent smells fresh and natural. It really makes your skin feel clean and nourished and doesn’t leave a residue like some cream cleansers do. I bought a gift set from Selfridges so I could try a few products before committing to a bigger spend and have fallen completely in love, so I’ll definitely purchase the full size when it runs out.
2. Lano Golden Dry Skin Salve
I am all about having multi-use products and this is one that most people would benefit from having in their kit. This is a thick gel that can be used on all parts of the body for restoring hydration in even the most aggravated and chapped skin. I mainly use this as a lip balm and on my face when my skin is feeling a bit tight and itchy. Anyone who is prone to breakouts, have no fear it has never caused me to break out as it doesn’t clog pores. The Salve is made from 100% natural ingredients, containing Vitamin E and Manuka Honey, recognised for their healing properties. I recommend squeezing out a pea size amount out and warming in the palm of your hands before applying to your preferred area. A little goes a long way.
3. Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion
Skin maintenance shouldn’t stop at the face and neck. We should be paying attention to the skin on the rest of our body as well. This body lotion contains Lactic Acid, which exfoliates the skin, and sweet Almond Oil to nourish and hydrate. Don’t let the acid contents scare you into thinking you may be over stripping your skin, this cream can be used twice daily for best results, which is smooth skin. Winter is a great time to start using this lotion as you have to make sure you use sunscreen whilst using any AHA/lactic acid product as the skin will be sensitive and could be damaged by exposure to the sun. This cream is especially good for anyone who experiences in-growing hairs and Keratosis Pilarisis – I have experienced both and this is great for keeping both at bay.
4. Luna Sleeping Night Oil by Sunday Riley
This is on the expensive side, but well worth the money. It contains an advanced retinol complex which works overnight to reduce visibility of fine lines and wrinkles whilst also replenishing moisture to help smoothness and plumpness. Retinol helps stimulate cell renewal so is also great if you suffer from acne or dry, dehydrated skin. If you don’t have a set beauty routine, put your focus into your night-time care as your skin absorbs products better at night and there are less environmental factors like pollution or exposure to sun damage.
5. Ultrasun Face Daily Face Fluid SPF50+ Brightening and Anti-Pollution sun cream
Even in winter we need to protect our skin from sun exposure. Sunscreen is the most effective way of preventing ageing and reduces the risk of melanoma. Although the weather is cold and sun seems to be scarce, we still need to protect our skin, especially when using other anti-ageing products like Retinol, Vitamin C serums and any AHAs/BHAs as the exfoliating agents in these products can make our skins sensitive and vulnerable. I have tried a few sun creams but have struggled with the consistency being too greasy or my make-up not sitting well on top of it. This product sinks into the skin, which is great, especially for a factor 50+ and it doesn’t leave a white film. Water resistant, non-comedogenic, which means it won’t block your pores, protects from blue light, great for sensitive skin and active anti-pollution ingredients. What else do you need from a sunscreen?
