Nobody knows who she is for sure, but Lady Manchester has 119k followers on Instagram from around the globe. Her devoted army of fans adores her inimitable brand of sardonic wit which calls out men’s bad behaviour. Here’s a classic: “You let a man into your life and now you’re irritated by 9am”. Her dating and sex advice is inspired, but it’s not for the faint-hearted…or men.
- What has been your Best Life Project to date?
Starting my instagram page. Totally inspired by all the kick ass girl power accounts out there. I used to trawl through Instagram until late in the night looking at memes, finding things that resonated with me. It may sound a bit cheesy but memes literally gave me a smile on some of my hardest days. Making my own page became a no-brainer. I was scared to write my first meme. That was 3 years ago. I’m still amazed by how many people follow @theladymanc page. It warms my heart to know how many crazy women like me there actually are out there! Lol.
2. The unknown … what challenges did you have to overcome?
I have had some negatives over my page. My old work found out and were less than impressed. I wasn’t there for long afterwards. I hate that feeling of being judged. It’s a shame really. I also dated a guy for a while, eventually I told him about my page and he dumped me. Yes, he actually dumped me over it! He said I’d been writing disrespectful things about men on days I was with him. Babes, I write them every day! Ha ha. Definitely a blessing in disguise.
3. In hindsight…..what would you do differently?
Not a great deal actually. I have made mistakes, shed loads. Sometimes I make them multiple times just to make sure I’m really doing it right! But in all seriousness, the free spirit in me firmly believes that it all shapes you and you end up where you need to be. One of my best friends says, “We always come out on top in the end and if we’re not on top, it’s not the end”. I live by this mantra.
4. Next steps?
Hopefully cotinuining to grow the page and doing more projects to support women. Whether we realise it or not, women have lower self esteem than men. Anything we can do to grow in confidence and take over the world works for me. Women really are the future.
5. What lifestyle changes has lockdown made you consider?
It pains me to tell you that I’m one of those morons who’s actually upped my exercise and fitness levels during lockdown. Naturally suited to eating crisps in my PJs and watching Netflix all day, I actually managed to do the ‘right’ thing and my fitness levels have never been higher. I really am a bit disappointed in myself. To be fair, the mental health benefits of exercise have stopped me murdering my cat over lockdown, so all worth it (I have no pets really, please don’t call the RSPCA). I do, however, solemnly promise to eat a full tub of Ben and Jerry’s a day during the next pandemic!
6. Kissing frogs …. is there an unexpected person who has helped you and, if so, how did they do it?
Kissing frogs? Now you’re talking my language. Ha! So, I have kissed many frogs, none have turned into princes sadly. God loves a trier. In terms of unexpected help, I met a highflying female exec once who recommended a book to me called Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. It literally changed my life. I recommend to all up and coming females.
7. My Inspiration ….who or what inspires you?
I am lucky enough to have some mega role models around me. My CEO at work is female. I idolise her. My mum is my ultimate hero, I’m still amazed at her holding down a super job and raising two kids in her amazing Stepford Wife style. My friends give me strength every day. These positive relationships have created such a powerful and loving dynamic within my world and I really wouldn’t want it any other way. I just hope I meet a man that fabulous one day.
8. How do you relax or do you struggle to relax?
It may sound slightly cringe, but I do swear by yoga and guided sleep meditation. Books and music. Who doesn’t dance around the bedroom, right?
9. Guilty secret pleasure?
Phil Collins – my dad always had him on in the car when I was growing up. Groovy Kind Of Love is my jam – don’t tell anyone 😉
