Product test: Seven organic ingredients in one fiery immunity-boosting shot

Ever since I studied naturopathic nutrition, I’ve been a firm believer in taking control of my health in terms of what I eat and drink.

In saying that, it’s not always easy or possible to take in five plus fruit and veggies a day, drink two litres of water and keep sugar to an absolute minimum. And don’t get me started on alcohol intake. Big fail!

But what we put into our bodies has an effect on our immune systems. Did you know that 80 per cent of our immunity is in our gut? So, what we allow to enter that gut is of vital importance.

If Covid-19 has achieved one thing it’s made us realise the importance of our immune systems. If immunity is compromised we’re simply not as good at fighting off illness.

So I was interested to try a product which seemed to have a lot to offer gut health. Steeps One Shot is a fiery blend of seven raw, natural, sustainably-sourced organic ingredients – turmeric, ginger, chilli, garlic, onion and horseradish. All peeled, chopped and infused for 12 weeks in Apple Cider Vinegar – organic ACV that is, with the web of beneficial enzymes, called The Mother.

I’m a big fan of ACV, having suffered with gall bladder issues in the past. I’ve found a regular shot of organic ACV, avoiding certain foods, like pastry, and dropping weight have all meant that I’ve held on to my gallbladder when surgery was looming. I’ve not had a flare up in years despite having gall stones.

In One Shot the addition of garlic, ginger, horseradish, turmeric etc, all known for their anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties has to make this a wonder product. The cost, which seems a little high, is understandable when you take into consideration the use of organic products and the process and bottling required. It’s also delicious, much tastier than drinking straight ACV, which can make me feel nauseous on an empty stomach.

It’s a powerful once-a-day gut-friendly wellness shot that gets your metabolism and digestion firing on all cylinders. And the natural anti-inflammatory properties of all the raw ingredients takes the heat off your immune system, helping to keep those nasty bugs at bay.

Jamie Baird, Founder and Chief Steeper, says “Steeps One Shot started three years ago, when I stumbled on a recipe which originated in the 70s while researching gut health and the microbiome. The original recipe was created by herbalist Rosemary Gladstar, who coined the phrase “Fire Cider”. I started out experimenting with the recipe and making it in my garage, as I was fascinated with all of these great natural ingredients combined into one easy to take drink. To me this recipe seemed the ultimate solution to ward off colds and flu bugs and keep me fully charged.

“I don’t take myself seriously, but I do take my health seriously and as a freelance fitness trainer and a busy dad to three kids I need to keep my immune system fully charged at all times. This has been my best kept secret and now I’m really excited to share it with everyone.”
